2014-06-09thinkpad-acpi: fix issuing duplicated key events for brightness up/downAlex Hung
commit ff413195e830541afeae469fc866ecd0319abd7e upstream. The tp_features.bright_acpimode will not be set correctly for brightness control because ACPI_VIDEO_HID will not be located in ACPI. As a result, a duplicated key event will always be sent. acpi_video_backlight_support() is sufficient to detect standard ACPI brightness control. 2013-03-06asus-laptop: Do not call HWRS on initBen Hutchings
commit cb7da022450cdaaebd33078b6b32fb7dd2aaf6db upstream. Since commit 8871e99f89b7 ('asus-laptop: HRWS/HWRS typo'), module initialisation is very slow on the Asus UL30A. The HWRS method takes about 12 seconds to run, and subsequent initialisation also seems to be delayed. Since we don't really need the result, don't bother calling it on init. Those who are curious can still get the result through the 'infos' device attribute. Update the comment about HWRS in show_infos(). It has been reported that running this driver on some Samsung laptops with EFI can cause those machines to become bricked as detailed in the following report, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557 There have also been reports of this driver causing Machine Check Exceptions on recent EFI-enabled Samsung laptops, https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121 So disable it if booting from EFI since this driver relies on grovelling around in the BIOS memory map which isn't going to work. 2013-02-06efi: Make 'efi_enabled' a function to query EFI facilitiesMatt Fleming
commit 83e68189745ad931c2afd45d8ee3303929233e7f upstream. Originally 'efi_enabled' indicated whether a kernel was booted from EFI firmware. Over time its semantics have changed, and it now indicates whether or not we are booted on an EFI machine with bit-native firmware, e.g. 64-bit kernel with 64-bit firmware. The immediate motivation for this patch is the bug report at, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1040557 which details how running a platform driver on an EFI machine that is designed to run under BIOS can cause the machine to become bricked. Also, the following report, https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47121 details how running said driver can also cause Machine Check Exceptions. Drivers need a new means of detecting whether they're running on an EFI machine, as sadly the expression, if (!efi_enabled) hasn't been a sufficient condition for quite some time. Users actually want to query 'efi_enabled' for different reasons - what they really want access to is the list of available EFI facilities. For instance, the x86 reboot code needs to know whether it can invoke the ResetSystem() function provided by the EFI runtime services, while the ACPI OSL code wants to know whether the EFI config tables were mapped successfully. There are also checks in some of the platform driver code to simply see if they're running on an EFI machine (which would make it a bad idea to do BIOS-y things). This patch is a prereq for the samsung-laptop fix patch. In addition, calling asus_wmi_evaluate_method(ASUS_WMI_METHODID_DSTS2, 0, 0, NULL) returns ASUS_WMI_UNSUPPORTED_METHOD in new ASUS laptop PCs. This patch fixes no DSTS ID will be assigned in this case. Note that laptop supported by samsung-q10 seem to have a different vendor strict. Also remove every log output until we know that we have a SABI interface (except if the driver is forced to load, or debug is enabled). Keeping a whitelist of laptop with a model granularity is something that can't work without close vendor cooperation (and we don't have that). 2012-05-31sony-laptop: Enable keyboard backlight by defaultJosh Boyer
commit 6fe6ae56a7cebaebc2e6daa11c423e4692f9b592 upstream. When the keyboard backlight support was originally added, the commit said to default it to on with a 10 second timeout. That actually wasn't the case, as the default value is commented out for the kbd_backlight parameter. Because it is a static variable, it gets set to 0 by default without some other form of initialization. However, it seems the function to set the value wasn't actually called immediately, so whatever state the keyboard was in initially would remain. Then commit df410d522410e67660 was introduced during the 2.6.39 timeframe to immediately set whatever value was present (as well as attempt to restore/reset the state on module removal or resume). That seems to have now forced the light off immediately when the module is loaded unless the option kbd_backlight=1 is specified. Let's enable it by default again (for the first time). commit 461e74377cfcfc2c0d6bbdfa8fc5fbc21b052c2a upstream. We have several reports which says acer-wmi is loaded on ideapads and register rfkill for wifi which can not be unblocked. Since ideapad-laptop also register rfkill for wifi and it works reliably, it will be fine acer-wmi is not going to register rfkill for wifi once VPC2004 is found. Also put IBM0068/LEN0068 in the list. Though thinkpad_acpi has no wifi rfkill capability, there are reports which says acer-wmi also block wireless on Thinkpad E520/E420. 2011-12-05toshiba_acpi: Fix machines that don't support HCI_SYSTEM_EVENTSeth Forshee
The Satellite C670-10V generates notifications for hotkeys but does not support HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT. As a result when a hotkey is pressed it gets stuck in an infinite loop in toshiba_acpi_notify. To fix this, detect whether or not HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT is supported up-front and don't try to read system events if it isn't supported. In addition, limit the number of retries when reading HCI_SYSTEM_EVENT fails so that this loop cannot run unbounded. The driver doesn't check the result and directly uses it as some sort of divisor in some places: msleep(lis3->pwron_delay / lis3lv02d_get_odr()); Under this circumstances, this could very well cause the "divide by zero" exception from above. For now, I fixed it the easiest and most obvious way: Check if the result is sane and if it isn't use a sane default instead. I went for "100" in the latter case, simply because /sys/devices/platform/lis3lv02d/rate returns it on a successful boot. There have new acer notebooks' BIOS provide new WMID_GUID3 and ACERWMID_EVENT_GUID methods. Some of machines still keep the old WMID_GUID1 method but more and more machines were already removed old wmi methods from DSDT. So, this patch add a new ACER_WMID_v2 interface flag to represent new acer notebooks, the following is definition: + ACER_WMID: It means this machine only provides WMID_GUID1/2 methods. + ACER_WMID_v2: It means this machine provide new WMID_GUID3 and WMID_EVENT_GUID methods. Some ACER_WMID_v2 machines also provide old WMID_GUID1/2 methods, but we still query/set communication device's state by new WMID_GUID3 method. Add three new rfkill switches in this driver that are specific to Pegatron Lucid tablet. Please note that you might not need all three switches. For example if you don't have a 3G module inside your tablet. Also, on my device, the gpio for the wifi/bt module is connected to the bluetooth line. Therefore to activate your wireless lan interface, you need to use the "pega-bt" rfkill switch. Finally, the rfkill switch only works before the wireless module is loaded the first time. Unloading ath9k doesn't help, a reboot is necessary.
