2014-04-07dma: tegra: register as an OF DMA controllerChaitanya Bandi
Call of_dma_controller_register() so that DMA clients can look up the Tegra DMA controller using standard APIs. This requires the of_xlate() function to save off the DMA slave ID, and for tegra_dma_slave_config() not to over-write this information; once DMA client drivers are converted to dma_request_slave_channel() and DT-based lookups, they won't set this field of struct dma_slave_config anymore. 2014-04-07dma: add channel request API that supports deferred probeChaitanya Bandi
dma_request_slave_channel() simply returns NULL whenever DMA channel lookup fails. Lookup could fail for two distinct reasons: a) No DMA specification exists for the channel name. This includes situations where no DMA specifications exist at all, or other general lookup problems. b) A DMA specification does exist, yet the driver for that channel is not yet registered. Case (b) should trigger deferred probe in client drivers. However, since they have no way to differentiate the two situations, it cannot. Implement new function dma_request_slave_channel_reason(), which performs identically to dma_request_slave_channel(), except that it returns an error-pointer rather than NULL, which allows callers to detect when deferred probe should occur. Eventually, all drivers should be converted to this new API, the old API removed, and the new API renamed to the more desirable name. This patch doesn't convert the existing API and all drivers in one go, since some drivers call dma_request_slave_channel() then dma_request_channel() if that fails. That would require either modifying dma_request_channel() in the same way, or adding extra error-handling code to all affected drivers, and there are close to 100 drivers using the other API, rather than just the 15-20 or so that use dma_request_slave_channel(), which might be tenable in a single patch. acpi_dma_request_slave_chan_by_name() doesn't currently implement deferred probe. It should, but this will be addressed later. 2014-03-06ioat: fix tasklet tear downDan Williams
commit da87ca4d4ca101f177fffd84f1f0a5e4c0343557 upstream. Since commit 77873803363c "net_dma: mark broken" we no longer pin dma engines active for the network-receive-offload use case. As a result the ->free_chan_resources() that occurs after the driver self test no longer has a NET_DMA induced ->alloc_chan_resources() to back it up. A late firing irq can lead to ksoftirqd spinning indefinitely due to the tasklet_disable() performed by ->free_chan_resources(). Only ->alloc_chan_resources() can clear this condition in affected kernels. This problem has been present since commit 3e037454bcfa "I/OAT: Add support for MSI and MSI-X" in 2.6.24, but is now exposed. Given the NET_DMA use case is deprecated we can revisit moving the driver to use threaded irqs. For now, just tear down the irq and tasklet properly by: 1/ Disable the irq from triggering the tasklet 2/ Disable the irq from re-arming 3/ Flush inflight interrupts 4/ Flush the timer 5/ Flush inflight tasklets References: https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/1/27/282 https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/2/19/672 Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu> Cc: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> Reported-by: Mike Galbraith <bitbucket@online.de> Reported-by: Stanislav Fomichev <stfomichev@yandex-team.ru> Tested-by: Mike Galbraith <bitbucket@online.de> Tested-by: Stanislav Fomichev <stfomichev@yandex-team.ru> Reviewed-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: Dan Williams <dan.j.williams@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

commit e9baa9d9d520fb0e24cca671e430689de2d4a4b2 upstream. It appears that in the DMA40 driver the DMA tasklet will very often dereference memory for a descriptor just free:d from the DMA40 slab. Nothing happens because no other part of the driver has yet had a chance to claim this memory, but it's really nasty to dereference free:d memory, so let's check the flag before the descriptor is free and store it in a bool variable. 2013-12-04ioatdma: fix selection of 16 vs 8 source pathDan Williams
commit 21e96c7313486390c694919522a76dfea0a86c59 upstream. When performing continuations there are implied sources that need to be added to the source count. Quoting dma_set_maxpq: /* dma_maxpq - reduce maxpq in the face of continued operations * @dma - dma device with PQ capability * @flags - to check if DMA_PREP_CONTINUE and DMA_PREP_PQ_DISABLE_P are set * * When an engine does not support native continuation we need 3 extra * source slots to reuse P and Q with the following coefficients: * 1/ {00} * P : remove P from Q', but use it as a source for P' * 2/ {01} * Q : use Q to continue Q' calculation * 3/ {00} * Q : subtract Q from P' to cancel (2) * * In the case where P is disabled we only need 1 extra source: * 1/ {01} * Q : use Q to continue Q' calculation */ ...fix the selection of the 16 source path to take these implied sources into account. Note this also kills the BUG_ON(src_cnt < 9) check in __ioat3_prep_pq16_lock(). Besides not accounting for implied sources the check is redundant given we already made the path selection. commit 5d48b9b5d80e3aa38a5161565398b1e48a650573 upstream. The array to lookup the sed pool based on the number of sources (pq16_idx_to_sedi) is 16 entries and expects a max source index. However, we pass the total source count which runs off the end of the array when src_cnt == 16. The minimal fix is to just pass src_cnt-1, but given we know the source count is > 8 we can just calculate the sed pool by (src_cnt - 2) >> 3. commit 5a276fa6bdf82fd442046969603968c83626ce0b upstream. The tasklet and irqhandler are using spin_lock while other routines are using spin_lock_irqsave/restore. 2013-05-02dma:of: Use a mutex to protect the of_dma_listLars-Peter Clausen
Currently the OF DMA code uses a spin lock to protect the of_dma_list from concurrent access and a per controller reference count to protect the controller from being freed while a request operation is in progress. If of_dma_controller_free() is called for a controller who's reference count is not zero it will return -EBUSY and not remove the controller. This is fine up until here, but leaves the question what the caller of of_dma_controller_free() is supposed to do if the controller couldn't be freed. The only viable solution for the caller is to spin on of_dma_controller_free() until it returns success. E.g. do { ret = of_dma_controller_free(dev->of_node) } while (ret != -EBUSY); This is rather ugly and unnecessary and none of the current users of of_dma_controller_free() check it's return value anyway. Instead protect the list by a mutex. The mutex will be held as long as a request operation is in progress. So if of_dma_controller_free() is called while a request operation is in progress it will be put to sleep and only wake up once the request operation has finished. This means that it is no longer possible to register or unregister OF DMA controllers from a context where it's not possible to sleep. But I doubt that we'll ever need this. Also rename of_dma_get_controller back to of_dma_find_controller. 2013-05-02dma: of: Fix of_node reference leakLars-Peter Clausen
of_dma_request_slave_channel() currently does not drop the reference to the dma_spec of_node if no DMA controller matching the of_node could be found. This patch fixes it by always calling of_node_put(). 2013-05-02dmaengine: sirf: move driver init from module_init to subsys_initcallBarry Song
if we initilize dma driver by module_init, there are still many devices which will be initilized earlier than dma. these devices will fail to get dma channel. this moves dmaengine earlier than device_initcall and make dma available for all devices. 2013-04-30dma: sh: add KconfigShimoda, Yoshihiro
This patch adds Kconfig in the drivers/dma/sh. This patch also adds a new config "SH_DMAE_BASE" and the "config SH_DMAE" depends on it. Since some drivers (e.g. sh_mmcif.c) depends on shdma-base.c if CONFIG_DMA_ENGINE=y, the "config SH_DMAE_BASE" is set as "bool".
